Our August 2015 – August 2016 on-site project manager is Elizabeth (Liz) Bender (USA). Liz says, “I started volunteering with the Honduras Child Alliance in 2009 and I just can’t stay away! Over the years the program has continued to change, strengthen, and evolve to make itself a strong and reliable resource for the El Porvenir community.”
Liz has done 4 volunteer stints at HCA from 2009-2012, spending about one year total in El Porvenir. During her time in El Porvenir she realized that beyond teaching basic academics, she become passionate about providing education and support in how to keep the children healthy and this sparked her interest in pursuing a degree in Public Health. Liz has been studying Public Health at Griffith University in Australia since March 2014 and will be working as Project Manager in El Porvenir for a full year. Liz says, “Since my first time volunteering with HCA, I have felt connected to El Porvenir, the programs, and the kids! I am so excited to have a chance to come back, bringing a new skill set with me, and fulfill this role as Project Manager. This program means so much to me and the opportunity to come back in a leadership position is going to be a wonderful adventure!” Welcome back Liz!!
Update: As Liz finishes her time as Project Manager in early August, 2016, we are excited to announce that she will be joining our Board of Directors! We are thrilled to have her abilities, ideas and passion for our HCA kids, teens and adults for the long-term! More news on this coming soon!
