Honduras Child Alliance is committed to addressing the ever-changing needs of our students in El Porvenir, and especially this year. The normal function of the scholars program is to provide financial assistance and professional development to help students further their educations. Due to the pandemic, the public schools remain closed and it has been announced that classes will remain ‘virtual’. While remote learning helps protect students from the spread of COVID-19, it presents a huge dilemma as they try to interact with their assignments. Many students in El Porvenir, don’t have access to a computer and/or they don’t have access to wifi. HCA is adjusting the PEP+ programs to meet these challenges!

Younger children will work on school assignments as part of their PEP+ classtime. The PEP-2 and PEP-3 classrooms will open for extended hours so colegio students can use our laptops and wifi and have help in understanding assignments. University students will be able to request access too. Keeping classrooms open for more hours each day also means that our in-country ayudantes (interns) receive more work hours as they tutor and supervise. That's a win-win since it helps them to cover their own educational expenses as well.

This is a very difficult time for colegio and university students to move forward and complete their degrees. HCA has already awarded 11 scholarships to colegio and university students in El Porvenir to help them succeed with virtual learning, but there are so many more who need some help! While slowing the spread of COVID-19 is imperative, it is also important to ensure that students are able to continue with their education in a safe way. Return to PROJECTS
